The Seamstress Behind the Designs

The Seamstress Behind the Designs

Hi, I'm Aubrey Sanders! I taught myself how to sew (beyond straight lines) after I married my sweet husband in 2016. I wasn't obsessed at first, but that all changed when I was pregnant with my first baby two years later! I wanted to sew all his clothes! This dream quickly died when sewing burp cloths ended in me sitting at my machine on the floor in the living room. I was frustrated and in tears because it was taking a million years to cut and sew each piece. It took me two months to finish that project, and I walked away from my machine for several months.

However, I came back to the machine after my son was born. I was looking at her, and she was looking at me. Both of us hostile, we worked out our differences. I learned how to sew weighted blankets, and proceeded to sell those for over a year. I learned how to sew with knit fabrics, and made my son a few pieces to wear, but nothing substantial.

After that year of sewing weighted blankets, I turned to sewing headbands and bow  making- thus beginning my journey of owning a business with my best friend! We worked together for a couple of years. Both of us added babies to our families and became busier and busier. When Covid hit, we decided to closer shop and find some peace at home with our families, but that was the exact moment when my freelance alterations business-which had started accidentally through word of mouth- took off. Bikers wanted me to sew patches onto their jackets (did you know bikers have a busy season?), prom dresses needed to be hemmed, blue collared workers needed work pants fixed, mothers needed nursing-friendly alterations, mothers of grooms called me in a panic to have their sons' suits tailored, and on and on. I took almost every job, and asked master seamstresses for their advice along the way.

All of this has led me here to you! Having children opened my eyes to the typical quality of big box children's clothing. I struggle to find boys clothes that aren't covered in cartoon characters or phrases. I love the look of classic clothes for kids. Their silhouettes are timeless, easy to dress, and so nice to look at. I also noticed the fabrics for dresses tend to be mostly polyester. Which can be comfortable (unless they're the itchy polyester), but so hard to clean. Clothes were meant to be well-worn. I want to fix these things for you!

I feel so humbled that you would come to Aubs Seams Stressed to find clothes for your family. I take so much joy in stitching every piece together, and can't wait to see how you style these treasures!

XOXO,

Aubs
